BOOK DESIGN

 The goal for the cover design was to create a visually compelling image that captured the eerie and unsettling tone of the stories. It needed to reflect the themes of magic, supernatural forces, and family dynamics without spoiling the plot for the reader.  I also wanted to convey the depth and complexity of the narrative. 

The Client 

The client is ChiZine Publications, an independently owned book publisher based in Canada. After the success of the first printing of We Will All Go Down Together by Gemma Files, the publisher is ready to begin the design phase for the second printing of the book. The book combines elements of fantasy and horror, set within a complex web of interconnected short stories. 

The Problem 

The main challenge for the cover design was to visually represent the dark and supernatural themes of the book , while also creating the right atmosphere for the narrative. The cover needed to reflect the complexities of the book, while remaining intriguing to potential readers in a crowded genre. The book design also needed to work well both digitally and in print, standing out in bookstores and online retailers. 

The Outcome

 The final cover design of We Will All Go Down Together features a haunting, atmospheric illustration that mirrors the supernatural themes explored in the book. It incorporates dark, shadowy imagery to evoke a sense of mystery and tension, drawing on images from witchcraft and magic. The cover successfully communicates the haunting tone of the stories, with a design that reflects the book’s complex world of interconnected narratives. The cover stands out in the horror and fantasy genres and is visually intriguing, ensuring that potential readers are drawn to the book both online and in physical stores.
